Stomach
Stomach surgery is referred to as gastrectomy. The gastrectomy can be partial, where only some of the stomach is removed. Or it may be a total gastrectomy, where the entire stomach is removed. This is done for both non-cancerous or cancerous conditions.
Conditions where a gastrectomy is performed include:
- Complications of peptic ulcer disease, such as perforation or narrowing
- Stomach tumours such as GIST
- Stomach cancer
